South Australia weeks 2 & 3: A Mixed Bag…

We are still adjusting. This adjustment has been different than what we expected, some good some not so much!

Lots of good, which includes:

  • Scarlett is really enjoying school! There are the usual ups and downs, of course, but she is having fun and learning.

  • We signed both girls up for Little Athletics (think track and field for little kids). Nora is finally able to participate in an activity on her own and we have learned she is really fast! They have done two weeks and are both enjoying it.

  • Little Nippers (Normanville Surf Life Saving Training) continues to be awesome. 3 weeks completed and Scarlett is still having fun. Whitney continues to think the name is ridiculous.

  • Exploring the region. Super slow start but Whitney is going it alone with Nora and Hazel (reason why explained in the “not so good” section) and has found some great activities including:

    • Lollipops indoor playground

    • Hahndorf Farm Barn to feed the baby (and big) animals

    • Jump! Swimming lessons for Nora

  • Sunsets and quiet of Carrickalinga. The quiet of this beachside town is awesome. The people we are meeting are wonderful and the kangaroos still keep us in a happy place!

Not so good:

  • A member of my family received a cancer diagnosis shortly after we arrived. The past two weeks have been a blur of doctor visits, surgery and time at the hospital. Now we wait to learn more information this week. Everyone is scared and uncertain. So I am helping with appointments, scheduling and just being around (i.e. Australian healthcare system patient advocacy!).

  • Errands and cleaning. The family beach house my Grandma built 46 years ago is really struggling so we are working through a ton of clean up, fixing and stabilizing activities. Positive for the help it will provide my Dad and his Sister but not aligned with our goal to spend time together as a family.

Below are some pictures of these past few weeks. Here is hoping the next few weeks take a turn to better health and open up a little.
